Upgrade Ubuntu 12 to Ubuntu 14

This article will help you upgrade Ubuntu 12 to Ubuntu 14, while keeping your Wanguard data intact. Major updates such as this one may not be always 100% successful, which is why we recommend backing up your system before the upgrade. You should be able to perform the upgrade successfully by following these simple steps:

  1. Stop all components from the web interface.
  2. Log out of the web interface.
  3. Stop the WANsupervisor service.
  4. Perform a regular software upgrade to make sure all packages are up to date:
     apt-get update && apt-get upgrade
  5. Either use the update manager to fully upgrade your system:
    apt-get install update-manager-core
    sudo update-manager -d
  6. Or upgrade manually using:
  7. If prompted whether to choose between your current configuration file or install the new package maintainer's version, make sure you choose to install the new version in order to avoid unexpected errors.
  8. Check your php version:
    php -v
  9. Depending on the php version, edit /etc/php5/apache2/php.ini and /etc/php5/cli/php.ini to contain the new php version in the "zend_extension=..." line. Instead of:
You might have to type in:
depending on the new php version. If the line is missing to begin with, make sure you add it.
  10. Execute the following commands:
    ln -s /opt/andrisoft/etc/andrisoft_apache.conf /etc/apache2/conf.d/andrisoft_apache.conf &> /dev/null
    ln -s /opt/andrisoft/etc/andrisoft_apache.conf /etc/apache-ssl/conf.d/andrisoft_apache.conf &> /dev/null
    ln -s /opt/andrisoft/etc/andrisoft_apache_2_4.conf /etc/apache2/conf-enabled/andrisoft_apache.conf &> /dev/null
  11. Restart the apache service:
    service apache2 restart
  12. Execute the following command to allow the software to update using Ubuntu 14 packets from here on out:
    echo "deb http://www.andrisoft.com/files/ubuntu14 trusty main" > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/andrisoft.list
  13. Start the WANsupervisor service
    service WANsupervisor restart
